Released a year ago this week, Manchester group Dream English Kid’s single I See Red emerges playfully between spine chilling and spine-tingling with foot-stomping credentials. The band wrote that the track was about ‘feeling uncertain in a weird world but being curious and finding solace in the unknown’ and after a first listen through, this sentiment is clear to see. The track brews a sense of precariousness, with haunting vocals that echo pagan-like over an embalmed electronic drum beat that’s complemented by melodic fills and lead into a surging, industrial guitar riff that gracefully unnerves the listener.
For fans of fellow gloom-psych group Just Mustard, this track is definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a welcome progression from the over-abundance of regressive indie rock bands in Manchester. More recently, the band have released a live session on YouTube which has received criminally few views - found here.
